I founded Elevation Leadership, guided by the firm belief that leadership is much more than a position, a title, or the latest promotion. Instead, it is a personal choice one makes to be a leader. It is a decision to step up and rise above the crowd, not with incredible talents or abilities and not through force of will, use of power or authority. It is a calling to place the well-being and success of others before one's immediate self-interests. This is often referred to as servant leadership: serving others, adding value to others, knowing that by doing so, I are more likely to achieve our own vision of success. With this in mind, I also believe that everyone has the potential to be an effective leader.
As an aspiring leader, there are many ways to add value to others, and these will vary depending on situation or circumstances. Perhaps it is demonstrating courage in the face of fear or danger. Perhaps it is remaining steadfast and determined after failing or falling short of the goal. Perhaps it is providing encouragement and support when the going gets tough. Perhaps it is a swift kick in the pants when complacency and laziness threaten to win the day. Again, everyone has their own idea of how leaders can add value. In fact, many of us probably have good examples of how influential leaders have added value to us over the course of our life and career.
LEADERSHIP AND PERSONAL GROWTH
Through years of first-hand experiences, close observations and research, I have concluded that the most common and most influential thing any leader can do is to place their highest priority on the personal growth and development of those they lead. In other words, a leader’s most important task is developing other leaders. Think of someone who has been an influential leader in your life: a parent, a brother or a sister, aunt or uncle, husband, wife, partner, teacher, coach, boss, respected peer, pastor or counselor. It is safe to consider, the reason why this person had such an influence on you was that he or she helped you to become a better person.
At Elevation Leadership I focus on helping others become more effective leaders so that they are better equipped to lead themselves, lead others and to lead other leaders. I do this by bringing together the two symbiotic components of personal and organizational effectiveness, leadership, and personal growth. We add value by developing leaders who in turn develop other leaders, who will eventually develop other leaders. Through this basic, no-nonsense approach, I expand the leadership capacity of your team one leader at a time.
HOW IS THIS DONE?
To begin, we will take steps to raise general awareness and fundamental understanding of what effective leadership is, and perhaps more importantly, what it is not. From here, we will work together to shed light on any leadership related issues that might obstruct or prevent you from going to the next level. Lastly, you will gain personal awareness of how you see yourself and how others see you. These crucial discoveries often uncover genuine opportunities for improvement, and the motivation to improve, which is key to taking actions necessary to create positive change.
It is safe to say that every strategy, every goal, every objective that you have both personal and organizationally is being impacted one way or the other by leadership. I help people, teams and entire organizations recognize and identify the impact that leadership (or the lack thereof) is having on your organizational culture and in turn organizational results. At Elevation Leadership we help you to understand the gap that exists between where you and your organization are and where you need to be and the obstacles that stand in your way.
Create Lasting Change
Once these deficiencies and barriers to success are uncovered, we work with you, your people and your team to raise the leadership lid, through practical, action-oriented training, developmental and coaching. I will incorporate a common sense approach to creating meaningful and lasting behavioral change with our LEARN-DO-REFLECT-ADJUST approach so that every person is more likely to realize the leadership potential that exists within him or her.
